Biography

Maria Chalevelaki is a semiotics scholar and educator specializing in luxury brand communication, visual culture, and marketing strategy. She has taught semiology, visual communication, marketing, and fashion management at private business schools in France and Amsterdam, and since September 2024, at the American College of Greece and UIBS. Her doctoral dissertation at Universite Lyon II explored the communication strategies of luxury fashion brands using semiotic analysis, and her postdoctoral research studied the discursivity of political events through the press. She is the author of a commercially successful book on applied semiotics, which has been adopted by fourteen departments of higher education across disciplines including graphic design, fashion design, architecture, and communication.
