From Magna Cum Laude to Global Industry: Meet UIBS Student Aylin Uyumus

A UIBS Marketing Management graduate on building a global career with BMW and Porsche — and the advice she’d give students just starting out.

Aylin Uyumus is already making her mark on the global stage. While studying at UIBS, she has built an international profile working with premium brands such as BMW and Porsche, navigating high-stakes, traditionally male-dominated industries with confidence, and building relationships with senior leaders across Europe.

With a strong grounding in global economics and international business, Aylin brings a rare combination of academic rigor and real-world experience. We sat down with her to talk about the skills that shaped her, the lessons the automotive world taught her, and her advice for students just starting out.

Which skills or experiences from your studies have had the most lasting impact on your professional development?

“Studying global economics gave me a strong foundation in understanding political systems and international economic dynamics. This perspective continues to shape how I analyze business environments and make informed decisions in my day-to-day work.”

You gained early experience with globally recognized brands like BMW and Porsche. What were the most valuable lessons?

“Working in a traditionally male-dominated field as a woman was a unique and empowering experience. Building connections with senior leaders, including VPs and board members, helped me recognize my own value and grow professionally. Working with premium global brands also taught me the importance of attention to detail and a high level of sensitivity in customer interaction, which I carry into my current role.”

How do you view the balance between academic knowledge and practical, hands-on learning?

“I strongly believe in integrating practical semesters into academic studies. It allows students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings and better prepare for the demands of the professional world.”

For students just beginning at UIBS, what approach would you recommend?

“Use your free time proactively for personal and professional development. Get involved in accreditation programs, contribute to the university community, and represent the school as an ambassador. These experiences open doors and build valuable skills beyond the classroom.”

On a more personal note, what do you miss most?

“I especially miss the beautiful location in the heart of Barcelona, as well as the flexibility in choosing my timetable. Most importantly, I value the strong connections I built with fellow students and professors, which made the experience truly memorable.”

Aylin’s journey at UIBS

Aylin graduated with a final grade of 95.5, earning a Magna Cum Laude distinction. She holds a Master in Marketing Management from UIBS and is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy (DPhil) in International Management, also at UIBS. Her doctoral thesis focuses on female leadership in management positions, a subject that resonates deeply with her own professional journey.

Aylin’s story reflects what a UIBS education is built for: globally minded students who learn by doing, supported by personal attention and the freedom to shape their own path. Study with us at our city-center campus in Barcelona, one of nine campuses across Europe, Japan, and Online.
